V5 Firmware - What's new?

IMPORTANT NOTE
If you have a zappi v1 (the original zappi) then do not update the firmware on any of your devices to Version 5

Version 5 firmware is not available for the v1 zappi due to the limitations on memory and processing power available

What's new in the v5 firmware?

The myenergi v5 firmware has been developed for the introduction of libbi, allowing the battery operation to be optimised alongside zappi charging your EV and eddi diverting power to a heating load.  As the same time, we’ve taken the opportunity to introduce and improve a number of features, which include: 

• An export power limit (a requirement in the UK under Engineering Recommendation G100 which applies if there is the potential to export more than 16A to the grid) 
• Improving the way that we check to make sure that the Grid CT is connected and in particular making sure that the load is reduced if the Grid CT is connected to a harvi and the radio link is interrupted for any reason ¹.
• Improving the neutral current limit algorithm (a particular requirement for three phase supplied in Germany) so that the controlled is adjusted to reduce the neutral current ².
• Changing the way that Grid Power Limit works so that it applies to all myenergi linked devices and not apply to each device individually 
• Smoothing the response of the Grid and Monitor limits when the set current is exceeded. 
• Improvements to the way that surplus power is allocated so that the power is correctly allocated based on device priorities whilst still respecting Group and Monitor limits. 
• Improving the way that the Monitor limits work and the way that CT’s are allocated to Groups, in particular being able to assign the internal CT in each device to a Monitor group (see below).
• Improvements to the way each device responds if there is a loss of communication to the Grid CT or to the Master device 
• Ability to decide if the libbi is used to supply power to zappi and eddi
• There are also a number of bug fixes in the new firmware.

The V5 firmware does not include auto phase switching in the three phase zappi but it provides the groundwork required to provide this important feature.

Menu changes

With the v5 firmware some menus have changed

Export Limit

On “Master” device there is a new setting – Export Limit.  This is found in a slightly different place on each device:

Zappi Supply Grid - Network	Eddi Supply Grid - Export	Libbi Supply Grid - Export

This only works if you have a libbi and can be used to limit the amount of power being exported to the Grid. This is a requirement in the UK under Engineering Recommendation G100 for larger batteries and in locations where a battery and PV inverter are fitted at the same property.

Supply Grid - Device

On the Supply Grid – Device menu there is a new setting “Drain libbi”.  
This setting can also be changed in the myenegri app if you have a libbi installed

If this set to “On” then the energy stored in the libbi battery will be used to supply an EV (zappi) or electrical load (eddi) if libbi is a lower priority than the zappi or eddi.

Note: This feature works with zappi in ECO+ and eddi in "Waiting for Surplus" / Diverting".  It may not work quite as expected if zappi is in FAST or zappi/eddi are Boosting.

If “Drain libbi” is Off then the battery will never be used by zappi to charge your EV or by eddi provide power to eddi.

Group Limits

With the v5 firmware the approach to Group Limits has changed slightly.

There are now only two groups (Group 1 and Group 2) and all "Internal Load" and "Monitor" current transformers (CT's) in one group will contribute to the total current calculated for that group. (Previously Internal Load and Monitor limits were treated separately but that wasted a lot of CT inputs when using the "monitor" function).

If you had Group Limits set then your CT's will have automatically been put in Group 1 or Group 2.

Any CT's that were not in an active group will have the Group set to "none" or "off"

Note: the CT Groups for each CT are now turned off on each device individually - not just on the Master Device.

If you had Group Limits set before the update it's worth taking a few minutes to double check that they are still set up correctly.

At this point the Group Limits only work with CT's that are wired directly to your zappi, eddi or libbi. We're hoping to include Group Limits for CT's connected to a harvi in a future firmware update.

[1] Note: In the UK the Grid Limit feature is covered by Engineering Recommendation G100 Issue 1. This requires that the Grid CT is hardwired to the measuring device so still restricts the use of harvi.
