In this article:
This is not really a zappi problem, but we now have had multiple customers who have reported that they cannot charge their BMW iX3/i4/iX1 from their surplus PV generation. Zappi reports "Charge Delayed"
When the PV inverter is turned on, zappi is unable to deliver a charge, at night or during very poor weather the inverter on zappi is able to deliver a charge.
Once the weather was good and PV was working well, zappi stopped charging.
Everything works fine when the PV inverter is turned off.
The customer tried the "granny" 3 pin charger and that failed to deliver a charge also which confirmed this was not a failure of zappi.
The PV supplier changed a “low noise” setting from 15khz to 20khz and the problem went away.
Looks like the BMW didn’t like the noise that was being generated on the house mains especially when taking power from pv’s or batteries.
Before the change, the customer tested charging with another iX3 and it failed the same as mine, so BMW must be sensitive to noise on the mains.
The test base customer has a Sunsynk hybrid inverter.
