If you're using your zappi in a public place you might want to restrict access to your zappi so it can only be used by authenticated users. zappi, using OCPP, achieves this by moving zappi from STOP to one of the charging modes such as FAST after a user successfully authenticates and back again after the charging session has completed.
To do this you'll need to configure the lock function on zappi. This will:
- Only allow charging by authorized users
- Prevent the adjustment of device settings
Setting the lock function remotely
The easiest way to configure the lock function is using the OCPP configuration by setting the freecharging parameter to false. This will automatically set the lock function on zappi to the recommended setting. If you're unsure how to do this in your OCPP platform, please contact your provider and ask them to help you set the OCPP Configuration parameter 'freecharging' to false.
Setting the lock function directly on zappi
- Press the menu (three lines) button on zappi.
- Using the up and down arrows select Other Settings, using the plus button.
- Select Lock Function
- Set the following configuration
- EV Unplugged: OFF
- Charge: ON
- Auto Hide: OFF
If setting the lock function on the device. You'll also need to adjust the default mode on zappi to STOP. This will ensure that always go into STOP mode after a user unplugs or the zappi reboots. You do not need to do this step if you're setting up zappi using the OCPP free charging configuration parameter we'll do this automatically.
- Charge Settings
- Default Mode
- Change the default mode to STOP
While other configurations of the lock can be used with OCPP they may have limitations. If you'd like to prevent unlocking of the charging cable on a socketed zappi you can find out how to do this here.
