Myenergi devices are designed to maximise the use of renewable energy generated by your solar or wind system. Among their advanced features are the Export Margin and Export Threshold settings, which play a crucial role in ensuring efficient energy usage. These settings can optimise your system’s performance, especially in setups involving house battery systems. This article explains how these features work and provides guidance on configuring them to suit your needs.
Export Margin
The Export Margin setting ensures that the device operates only when a specified amount of surplus energy is being exported to the grid. For instance, if you set the Export Margin to 100W, the device will be able to activate when the solar export reaches above this value. It will then maintain this margin while consuming the remaining energy for its operation.
Example:
-
Export Margin: 100W
-
Solar export: 1000W
In this scenario, the device will consume 900W of energy for its function, ensuring a continuous export margin of 100W. This approach effectively discards 100W as export to maintain the set margin.
Export Threshold
The Export Threshold offers a more dynamic solution. With this setting, the device will not activate until the solar export exceeds a specified value. Once activated, it will utilise all surplus energy for its operation, leaving no energy for export.
Example:
-
Export Threshold: 200W
-
Solar export: 1000W
Here, the device will remain inactive until the export reaches at least 200W. Once it activates, the entire 1000W of export will be directed towards its operation, leaving 0W for export.
Benefits for House Battery Systems
Both the Export Margin and Export Threshold settings are particularly beneficial when integrating a house battery system into your setup. These settings help prevent the battery from discharging to power the device. Without these configurations, the battery might perceive the device as an ordinary household load and discharge energy to meet its demand.
By implementing these settings:
-
The house battery will not discharge to supply energy to the device.
-
Surplus renewable energy can be prioritised for other uses or stored in the battery.
Recommendations for Non-Battery Systems
If your system does not include a house battery, you can leave both the Export Margin and Export Threshold values at 0W. This configuration allows the device to operate without restrictions, making full use of any available export energy.
