First make sure you have updated the hub's firmware
Then make sure that the latest firmware images for the zappi are downloaded to your hub
-
Briefly press the download button. When the button is released the “server” LED turns white and the “power” LED will remain green.
-
The “server” LED will remain white while the new images are downloading
-
Once the download is complete the server light will turn blue or green again (please note that this could take up to an hour to complete)
If the “power” LED is white then the hub is in diagnostic mode. Press the download button again to return the hub to normal operation
Updating the firmware on your zappi 2
Once the latest firmware images have been downloaded to the hub, to upgrade the firmware
- Press the left hand (“pizza box”) button so that the screen shows the Main Menu
- Use the down arrow and + button to select “Other Settings…” (the bottom menu item, not Charge Settings) and then “Advanced…”
- Enter the passcode (default is 0 0 0 0)
- Select “System…”
- Select “Download Firmware…”
The display will change to the "bootloader" menu and then you should see a counter showing the progress of the firmware installation. There are two parts to download so zappi will reboot once it reaches 2/2 100%

This seems very convoluted! I'm a technology professional and I would expect
a) to be able to initiate it from the app
b) it to be possible as a single step initiated from the Zappi (fair enough, once connected to a hub, though I was disappointed the hub isn't on a module built into the Zappi....)
Two-step download seems unnecessarily complex.
This does not work for me. I've followed the instructions and updated the hub, but when I try to download the Zappis latest firmware, it just hangs on the MyEnergi Loader screen and doesn't progress. Any ideas please people.
The same is happening for me.
But now works but only after updating the Hub again first.
I tried updating the hub several times, but it still doesn't work,!
The same for me. The update process always hangs at 33%.
I'm very disappointed.
If you run into problems downloading the firmware please try the following:
So ? No way ?
I would not like to have to send the post for repair.
The instructions seem incomplete. Once I select "Download Firmware" I get the following scrren below - and it just sticks there. Getting out of this screen is difficult - power off, then on again??
Hi
Just been reading some of the comments already posted. I plan to run through these instructions a.s.a.p. tomorrow, they don't seem too difficult to follow so fingers crossed I won't run into the same problems as others. I have a fairly complex PV system installed which has a hybrid parity super inverter which is both DC/AC and this is currently not supported by my Zappi. The reading for the charge to the car is OK but the rest of the information is inaccurate and carries the little yellow question mark triangle. Will any of the firmware updates go anyway to rectify this or am I still going to be left in limbo having bought a Harvi in order to gain additional information. In order to assist with Flex Beta I have set my Zappi to eco+ and programmed charge times between 00:30 to 04:30, so I'm doing my bit to help you, how about a bit of reciprocal assistance!
Hi
All sorted, no problem. In all took less than 20 minutes.
Ha, I just did mine as well. Instructions clear, no issues.
I would only add that during download to the hub the server light turned red, blue and flashing green but finally settled on solid green in the end!
Hi All,
If you are opted into the DSR trial, make sure you update the hub and the Zappi before you try and charge off peak....I didn't update the firmware and got woken up at 2am with the cars alarm going off, every light on the dashboard possible on and the car not responding to charge whatsoever....
I have updated it now so hopefully this will fix the issue
HI Gareth
There's no reason for the zappi to cause the problem you had with the car - either with the old firmware or the most recent version. The old firmware works OK for DSR and the update was just to improve the data that we receive to help us optimise the load reduction.
I can also confirm that we have not carried out any demand reduction events overnight so far.
If the alarm on your car goes off again then it might be worth getting it checked by the dealer - they may also be able to check the logs in the alarm to see what triggered it.
Followed the instructions, worked first time. Easy enough.
Please be aware if your vehicle is plugged into the Zappi it will start charging as soon as the firmware update is complete. I started the update with "waiting for surplus" displayed. Simply unplugged and replugged the car and everything was fine.
It's best to not have your car plugged to the Zappi when installing the firmware.
Nice to see the Zappi retains it's setup so no need to set it up again.
When the trial begins, I still think it would be a good idea to notify the people in the trial of what the likely daily reduction in energy will be. I use the timer on the Zappi to charge my vehicle at night. I can simply add an extra hour if it's going to be 7kW, half hour if it's going to be 3.5kW, etc. That way I'll always have more or less the 80% charge I aim for.
I am getting the same issue as Ray has put above. It just sits on the screen. Do i need to connect the zappi to the internet? I dont have a Hub which seems to be part of the process
Hi Paul
Yes - firmware updates can only be carried out if you have an internet connection
Please email support@myenergi.com who can help with a loan hub if the firmware update is required in order to deal with a performance issue
Just done this firmware update on my hub them my zappi worked a treat and now have the readings on my phone thank you
Ray Berry did you get a solution to this? I have the same issue trying to upgrade from v3.1.62 - stuck on the MyEnergi Loader screen, and never gets to the Boot Loader menu.
Another one where the hub updates v5.004 but when I try to update the zappi 2 it says it already has v 3.177, which is on the hub.Have tried 3 times and every time fails to get the v5 zappi update.
I managed to get mine updated, but I have some thoughts:
My Zappi got stuck at around 65%. I left it on and removed the Hub from the wall and brought it closer. The Zappi then finished the update without having to restart the process.
Removing the hub from the wall to bring it closer is also not the most elegant solution. Especially since the hub is not easily removed. You have to basically separate the cover as the bottom cover is permanently fixed to the wall.
This process feels very first generation. I still love the products and would still recommend them. I just hope the future versions will be easier to update.
Although this might complicate installation. I think a optional physical ethernet connection to Zappi, Eddi and Harvi would make this whole process better.
