Does libbi Have an Emergency Power Supply (EPS) Function?
No, libbi is not an EPS
libbi does not function as a certified Emergency Power Supply (EPS). However, it does offer a dedicated back-up output that can supply power to critical loads during a power cut.
What the Back-up Circuit Does
libbi includes an optional feature known as “blackout back-up”. This allows the system to provide stored battery power to a dedicated socket or circuit in the event of a grid outage.
- The back-up circuit is supplied from the inverter’s dedicated back-up output terminal.
- Only the designated backup circuit will receive power — the rest of the property remains disconnected.
- If solar is available, it can continue to charge the libbi battery during the outage.
Why libbi Is Not an EPS
To meet UK regulations, any inverter supplying power in a grid outage must (typically around 5 seconds) before switching to local power. This interruption makes libbi unsuitable for devices that require true uninterrupted power.
Not for critical or life-sustaining equipment
libbi’s back-up circuit is not intended to replace medical-grade EPS or UPS systems. Customers should not rely on it for uninterrupted power to critical devices.
Installation Guidance
If the customer wishes to use libbi’s backup function:
- Clearly identify the circuits or sockets that will be powered during an outage.
- Ensure the load on the back-up output does not exceed the inverter’s output capacity.
- Inform the customer that a brief power loss will occur before backup begins.
