Overview
Yes. If your eddi is located in an area with poor wireless connectivity, you can improve reception by relocating the antenna using an extension cable. For this you will need:
- SMA Male to SMA Female 50 Ohm extension cable
- Low-loss cable (RG58 or better recommended)
- Suitable mounting location for the antenna
NOTE: An extension cable will not always improve signal strength. Excessive cable length can induce signal loss.
Installation
- Power down the eddi unit.
- Disconnect the existing RF antenna. This is the larger antenna on the right-hand side of the device.
- Connect the SMA extension cable to the antenna port.
- Reconnect the antenna to the other end of the extension cable.
- Position the antenna in a location with fewer obstructions.
- Power up the device and verify signal strength.
Best Practices
- Keep the extension cable as short as practical.
- Avoid routing the cable near high-current electrical wiring.
- Position the antenna away from large metal objects.
- Mount the antenna vertically for best performance.
Troubleshooting
If signal strength does not improve:
- Check that both SMA connectors are fully tightened.
- Try a shorter cable length.
- Move the antenna to a different location.
