Overview
One of the most common reasons for customers contacting our support team is the warning message "bad voltage range." This article explains what this error means and what steps can be taken to rectify it.
What Does It Mean?
The "bad voltage range" or "Under/Over Voltage" message indicates an issue with the voltage at the myenergi products terminals within the unit. The local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) is responsible for providing a specified voltage to any property.
What Can Be Done?
As a customer, navigate to Menu > Readings > Page 2 and note the Voltage Min & Max number. If this number falls outside the acceptable range, it is essential to contact your local DNO to address the issue. The DNO can monitor the voltage and take necessary actions to correct any deviations.
Next, reboot the device. This will reset the voltage readings and ensure that any subsequent readings reflect current data rather than historical data.
Potential Impact of Solar PV Systems
If you have a solar PV system installed and notice a "bad voltage range" warning, it’s important to consider the impact of your solar installation. On sunny days, solar panels can sometimes produce excess voltage that may exceed the acceptable range for your property.
To diagnose this, follow these steps:
- Turn off the solar PV system: Temporarily disable your solar panels.
- Reboot the myenergi device: Restart the device to reset the voltage readings.
- Check the voltages: Navigate to Menu > Readings > Page 2 and observe the voltage levels.
If the voltage readings are now within the acceptable range, it is likely that a voltage optimizer needs to be installed with your solar PV system. Please note that this is not a responsibility of myenergi.
However, if the voltage remains outside the acceptable range even with the solar PV system turned off, this issue is likely related to the DNO and you should contact them for further investigation and resolution.
Voltage Supply Range
The DNO is obligated to supply each property with a voltage range between 207v and 253v. If your readings fall outside this range, it is crucial to contact the DNO for further assistance.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your myenergi device operates correctly and that your property receives a stable and reliable power supply.
