If you're experiencing a lower-than-expected charging rate with your EV, there are specific checks that need to be performed to diagnose the issue accurately.
Step 1: Check PWM
The first step is to check the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) setting on your Zappi. We've prepared a helpful article that guides you through this process: How to Check PWM on Zappi
Step 2: Evaluate PWM Reading
Once you've checked the PWM, look for a reading of 53% +/- 2%. If the reading falls within this range, it indicates that Zappi is functioning correctly, offering the EV a full 7.2kW charge that the vehicle is not accepting.
Step 3: Test with Another Charger or Another EV
To further confirm the issue, attempt to charge your EV on a different charger that is similar to Zappi, like a 32-amp AC charger. If the charging rate remains slow on this alternative charger, the problem is likely with the vehicle rather than Zappi.
Step 4: Check EV Settings
If the fault does not appear on the alternate charger, check your EV's settings to ensure there are no reduced charging settings enabled for home or timed charging. Tesla vehicles, in particular, are known to have such settings that can affect charging rates.
