Some of this information only applies to zappi's that have built-in WIFI / Ethernet. (zappi’s with a serial number starting with a 2). Depending on when your device was installed some features may not be available (such as tamper detection).
We know it’s not the most exciting of topics, but we strongly recommend you take a few moments to read the information below, to help us keep you safe and secure online:
Jargon Buster: We think it’s important that everyone understands how to keep themselves safe online. For each point below we’ve also included a Jargon Buster example.
-
Ensure your zappi has an internet connection: Your zappi will automatically check for over the air updates, when it’s connected directly to the internet. These updates contain feature and security enhancements that we recommend for all users. You’ll also get alerts on the myenergi app, should zappi’s tamper protection be triggered.
Jargon Buster: Keeping your zappi connected to the internet means zappi can let you know if someone has removed the cover from your device (which they might do, to try and break into it). Think of this as a burglar alarm, which lets you know if someone has opened the front door. zappi can also ensure it’s up to date and protected from the latest security threats. (Think of this like you upgrading the locks to your house).
-
Download and install the latest firmware updates: We’ll notify you on the myenergi app when new updates are available. You can choose to defer or install the update. We strongly recommend you update, for the best product experience and for your security, whenever updates are available.
Jargon Buster: Think about how easy it was to steal cars in the 1980’s. Thanks to advancements in technology, cars now have deadlocks, immobilizers and trackers to make them much harder to steal, however criminals are constantly finding new ways. The same is true for cyber security, but things move much faster. Installing updates usually only takes a few moments but can make sure your device is one step ahead of baddies. Best of all, updates are free of charge.
- Set a PIN code: You can set a pin code for zappi which must be entered each time the device is used. This prevents people from using or editing settings who are not authorised to do so.
- Use a strong password for your myenergi account / app: Your myenergi account and app contains information about your home and zappi energy consumption, so it’s important that you protect this. Let’s not make it easy for cyber criminals; ensure you use a strong password which you do not use for any other service.
Jargon Buster: Imagine having the same key for everything you used (your home doors, your garage, your car, your gym locker) If you were to lose this key or it was stolen, it could be used by a criminal to get into all of these things. This is the same for online accounts. Reusing or using weak passwords is one of the simplest ways baddies exploit us. Don’t make it easy for them.
- Never give out your PIN code, WiFi password, or myenergi account password to anyone: We’ll never ask for this information. If you’re asked for this information, please hang up and let us know at support@myenergi.com
Treat your password and PIN codes like you would your credit or debit card PIN number. Never share them with anyone and if someone asks for them, hang up.
-
Investigate Tamper Alerts: When people think of hackers, they often think of people sitting behind a computer, but some hacks start by physically breaking into your device. To protect you, zappi will send an alert via the myenergi app each time the cover is removed. If you receive an alert that you weren’t expecting, we recommend to safely power off the device, and call our team, so we can investigate further.
Deleting your personal data
You can delete your personal data on zappi by performing a factory reset.
You can do this by going to:

Some more suggestions to keep safe
Have a strong password for your WiFi router. We know it’s annoying to remember and enter each time, but a strong WiFi password helps to keep you and your family’s internet activity secure. If you’re unsure how to do this, the company that provides your internet should be able to help.
