The PE check is an advanced safety feature within zappi that ensures the continuity of the earth conductor by measuring the impedance of the supply back to the primary transformer. While this feature provides an added layer of safety, it is not offered by most other EV chargers and may occasionally need adjustment in specific cases.
What is the PE Check?
The PE (Protective Earth) check verifies that the earthing system is functioning correctly by testing the impedance between the zappi and the primary transformer. If the impedance is too high, the PE check may prevent the charger from operating.
This scenario is rare but can occur in specific installations where the supply characteristics do not meet the expected impedance range. In such cases, the PE check feature can be disabled without compromising the safety of the system, provided that the zappi has been correctly installed and standard electrical checks have been completed.
How to Disable the PE Check
To disable the PE check, follow these steps:
-
On your zappi, navigate to the menu:
Other Settings → Installer Settings → Supply Grid → Device → Earthing. -
Select the option "IT Earthing" to disable the PE check.
This adjustment ensures that zappi can operate correctly in environments where the impedance exceeds the threshold for the PE check.
Reassurance of Safety
Disabling the PE check does not compromise the safety of zappi, provided it has been installed by a qualified electrician who has carried out all standard installation and safety checks. The PE check is an additional feature, and its deactivation still ensures compliance with standard safety requirements.
