What is the Minimum Green Level (MGL)?

Overview

Part of the charging regulations states that the minimum charge rate is 1.4 kW per phase for a battery-equipped vehicle (including EVs and hybrids). We understand that some customers may not always reach this surplus level from their solar generation. To support greener charging in such cases, we created the Minimum Green Level setting.

The Basics

The Minimum Green Level is a setting within zappi to allow those who may not have enough solar capacity to allow for a purely surplus-based charge.

When it is set to a Min Green Level of 100% you will need more than 1.4kW of surplus energy available to start the charge. If the surplus falls below the 1.4kW threshold the charge will pause until the threshold is once again met after a short delay will resume the charge.

If you're unable to consistently reach this 1.4 kW threshold, you can adjust the setting to allow a mix of solar and grid (or battery) power.

The Min Green Level could be set to 50%. A charge will then start when there is a surplus of 0.70kW, taking a further 0.70kW from the grid or a battery if one is fitted.

It’s worth noting that this threshold only applies to starting the charge. If more surplus solar becomes available during charging, zappi will automatically use it - reducing the amount of energy drawn from the grid.

Adjusting MGL via app
After opening the app, navigate to the Zappi Icon: App Home Display.jpg

Next, access the ECO+ charging mode.

You'll see a slider ranging from 1% to 100%. Adjust this slider to set the desired charging level. A higher value means the charging rate will be closer to 1.4 kW.

Adjusting MGL via zappi

Same as the app, you can adjust the MGL via our zappi locally with ease: At zappi, you will need to Navigate to the following screen.

The values range from 1% to 100% is what you want to adjust, the higher the value, the closer to the 1.4kW required to be reached. You can see at the bottom of this display the required export amount and how much importing you will do.
