The Comms Fault / NMI warning is typically related to the ribbon cable inside the zappi, which transfers power and data between the internal components. If this cable is not securely connected during installation, repeated plugging and unplugging of the charging cable may cause the connection to loosen over time.
To resolve this issue, an installer should follow the steps below:
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Guide
-
Power Isolation and Safety
- Ensure the zappi is fully isolated from its power supply before proceeding. Double-check that no power is flowing to the unit before continuing to the next step.
-
Accessing the Internal Components
- Open the zappi casing as outlined in the image below. Take care to avoid damaging any internal parts.
-
Inspect and Reinsert the Ribbon Cable
- Locate the ribbon cable that bridges the two sides of the unit.
- Carefully remove the cable, ensuring there is no dust or obstruction around the connectors.
- Reinsert the ribbon cable until a firm "click" is heard and felt. This ensures the connection is solid.
-
Check the RCD Board Connections (If Applicable)
- Remove the RCD (Residual Current Device) board (separate PCB top left of rear PCB) to inspect the connections underneath.
- Ensure all connections are secure, reinsert the board, and verify that it is properly seated.
-
Reassemble and Test
- Close the zappi casing securely, ensuring all fastenings are properly tightened to 1.2nm
- Restore power to the unit and switch it back on.
