This article explains how PIN codes work on your zappi after recent security updates and how to configure or disable them.
About the RED security update
The EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED) has strengthened requirements for connected products. myenergi has chosen to apply these standards across all devices for consistent security. PIN behaviour is now more enforced than before to help prevent unauthorised use.
The Lock Function lets you require a PIN code at the start of a session or after inactivity. It helps ensure only authorised users can start or change charging.
Important
The Lock Function operates independently of OCPP settings. For OCPP configuration, see our dedicated articles.
Configuring the Lock Function
Follow these steps to view and configure the Lock Function options:
- Press the Menu button on the far left.
- Scroll to Other Settings.
- Select Lock Function.
- Adjust the options as needed.
What each option does
- EV PLUGGED: If ON, a PIN is required when an EV is connected.
- EV UNPLUGGED: If ON, a PIN is required when no EV is connected.
- TIMEOUT: Delay before the lock engages after last button press.
- LOCK CODE: Set a 5-digit PIN using digits 1 to 4. Default is 44444.
- AUTO HIDE: Shows a padlock icon when locked and hides standard screen info.
- CHARGE: If ON, charging is allowed while menus remain locked.
- TEST: Tests the lock solenoid on untethered units.
Why you are prompted to set a PIN
After updating to RED-aligned firmware, zappi prompts you to set a PIN on first touch after inactivity. If you prefer not to use a PIN long term, set one now, then use the steps below to disable it. We recommend keeping a PIN for protection.
How to disable the PIN requirement
To turn off PIN prompts on zappi, switch both state triggers to OFF:
- Press Menu → Other Settings → Lock Function.
- Set EV PLUGGED to OFF.
- Set EV UNPLUGGED to OFF.
- Optionally set AUTO HIDE to OFF.
- Leave LOCK CODE as is, it will not be requested when both states are OFF.
If you later want PIN protection again, return to the same menu and set either EV PLUGGED or EV UNPLUGGED to ON.
