How do myenergi products balance the grid in your property

General information and articles for the zappi

Current Transformers (CTs) are at the heart of how myenergi devices manage energy safely and intelligently. Unlike standard systems that simply consume power without context, myenergi products actively monitor how much electricity is flowing through your property. This allows our products to adapt in real time and protect your home’s electrical supply without needing expensive fuse upgrades.

The Grid CT, installed at the point where your property connects to the grid, plays a critical role. It constantly checks the direction and level of energy flow, whether importing from or exporting to the grid. This insight is used by devices like zappi, eddi, and libbi to ensure they never draw more power than your supply fuse can safely handle.

Why it matters

Without this protection, high-energy devices such as EV chargers or batteries could overload your main fuse. This can cause power outages or even damage the supply. The Grid CT prevents this by enforcing intelligent limits on your energy usage.

This page explains how the Grid CT system works, how it protects your electrical infrastructure, and how it helps you stay compliant with UK regulations.

How Grid CT Protects Your Property

myenergi devices include built-in safety features to protect your property’s electrical infrastructure. A key part of this is the Grid CT, which constantly monitors grid power.

By measuring the electricity flowing in and out of the property, the Grid CT enables zappi, eddi, and libbi to adjust their usage in real time. This ensures the total power drawn never exceeds the capacity of your main fuse.

DNO Approval and Supply Limit Compliance

The Grid Limit (Import Limit) function is accepted by UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs). This means that in most cases, there is no need to upgrade your property’s electrical supply when installing myenergi devices.

Rather than paying for expensive fuse upgrades, our devices intelligently manage energy demand to stay within your existing limits. This helps reduce both installation time and cost.

Good to know

zappi installations that use Grid CTs typically do not require formal DNO approval, thanks to automatic grid protection.

How Each Product Uses Grid CT
  • zappi uses Grid CT data to reduce EV charging power when the home is using a lot of electricity.
  • eddi diverts energy to heating only when there is spare capacity available on the grid connection.
  • libbi manages battery charge and discharge to avoid placing too much load on your supply fuse.
